So How did Coltness Car Club become known as "the Bears"?
Well it all started back in 1993
when after the demise of the Strathclyde Park hill climb, the
club was asked to take over the Scottish Rally Championship
round which had been based in Galashields. The local papers ran
the story of our new venture with the headline of "The Coltness
Bears are back in business!". Thus "The bears" tag was created
and has either stuck or been adopted.
But why "The Bears"? Could it be because like teddy bears we are
all cuddly, lovable and soft? We and others we know do not think
so. Is it that we are rough and
ready and like to play in the woods? Possibly closer! Others say
that it is because at a rally/event we look like the characters
from the 1970's Hanna-Barbera cartoon - the Hair Bear Bunch.
We will leave the decision up to you!
